Esther’s Friday Blog
Today, I attended a funeral.
Well, I didn’t exactly intend to start my Friday Blog this way today.
But death (almost) always surprises you – as was the case with this man. In respect of the next of kins, I will not go into further details as to what/how/where, but no-one had expected this particular man to pass away now. Yes – he did have a very severe illness, but – he “ought” to have stayed here for a long time to come.
And this is exactly the point. There is no known expiration date. Suddenly one day, one of our dear ones are gone (and this applies to ourselves as well).
Afterwards, we might have a bad conscience, because we too busy to visit him or her, because we had to do this or that. And then – suddenly it is too late.
In this sweet Christmas time, it is time to do something extra for our dear ones in all ages.
After the funeral, I went by the nursing home, at which I have been employed for a period as an entertainer of the inhabitants. Although, this nursing home is one of the good ones, some of hte inhabitants are still very lonesome. They say: “You know – the children are busy – but fortunately, I will see them on Christmas Eve.”
They have got accustomed to the fact that this is how it is.
Please – remember to be present for your loved ones, while they are still around. Maybe you will bake a little less Christmas cookies, knit fewer socks – or maybe you wont get to buy all the Christmas presents at once. Never mind about that!
An extra visit by you (or maybe just a telephone call) will be warmer than 5 pairs of homemade Christmas stockings.
